Hike with Mike | Sedona, AZ | October 2017

In October, Chief Scout Executive Mike Surbaugh, guided a might group of Scouters through the Red Rocks of Sedona, AZ on a quest to earn their honorary hiking merit badge.  The group hiked during the day and enjoyed the luxurious Enchantment Resort in the evening. They had dinner “on the rocks” after a  Pink Jeep Tour and explored the art and culture of the Desert Southwest at the Tlaqupaque Village.

2017 Second Century Society Recognition Dinner | May 24, 2017

We all know Scouting builds character. Did you also know Scouting is also full of interesting “characters?” The Second Century Society Dinner always brings out the most interesting members of our Scouting family. BSA National President, Randall Stephenson honored 7 new SCS members, 3 Lifetime Investors and 5 new Presidents Leadership Council members. The dinner also included a fireside chat between Randall Stephenson and Glenn Hutchins, co-founder of Silver Lake, global leader in technology investment. Among other topics, Glenn and Randall spoke of the important role Scouting plays in developing a future workforce of character and integrity.

plc-nasa-invite-final_page_1nasa-badgeThe Presidents Leadership Council and honored guests earned their honorary Space Exploration Merit Badge at the Kennedy Space Center. “Scoutmaster”, Chief Mike Surbaugh, and “Merit Badge Counselors”, Astronauts Jon McBride and Michael McCulley led the way on this day of adventure.

Adventures included…..a behind-the-scenes look at the Orion Mission, watching engineers build the capsule that will land a man on Mars…gathering at the secluded “Beach House”, where the astronauts spend their last night on Earth before launching into Space…driving down the Space Shuttle landing strip…fantastic dinner on “Mars” culminating in a birthday surprise for Eagle Scout and Florida Governor Rick Scott.  -read more event details

2016 Second Century Society Recognition Dinner | May 26, 2016

San Diego, California | Hotel Del Coronado

An amazing night at the Hotel del Coronado as the BSA Foundation recognized dedicated Scouting philanthropists. Three Presidents Leadership Council members,  two lifetime investors and five Second Century members were inducted.  New BSA National President, Randall Stephenson, addressed the gathering of over 200 as he spoke to the vision for the BSA.

Second Century Society members and guests enjoyed dinner on the playing field of the new College Football Hall of Fame.

“Pre-game” festivities included an autograph session with Hall of Fame Football Coach and keynote speaker, Bobby Bowden. Dr. Robert Gates, BSA National President, concluded the evening by inducting thirteen new Second Century Society members and two new Presidents Leadership Council members.
